This Privacy Policy describes how Swipemapp (“Swipemapp,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

When you create an account or use the Service, we collect:

  • Account information: username, display name, email address, profile picture, and bio
  • Content you create: photos, videos, captions, comments, and voice messages
  • Messages: text, images, videos, and voice notes sent through the messaging feature
  • Profile information: banner images, location (if shared voluntarily)
  • Event data: events you create, RSVPs, and attendee lists
  • Support communications: messages you send to our support team

1.2 Information We Collect Automatically

When you use the Service, we automatically collect:

  • Device information: device type, operating system, device identifiers (IDFA/Android Advertising ID), and app version
  • Usage data: features used, posts viewed, searches performed, interactions (likes, comments, follows), and session duration
  • Log data: IP address, date and time of access, browser type, and diagnostic information
  • Location data: approximate location derived from IP address; precise location only if you enable location-based features
  • Camera and microphone data: only when you are actively creating content (photos, videos, voice messages)
  • Photo library access: only files you explicitly select

1.3 Information from Third Parties

  • Authentication providers: if you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from that provider
  • Analytics providers: aggregated and anonymised data about app performance and usage patterns

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
  • Create and manage your account
  • Enable you to create, share, and interact with content
  • Power the messaging, events, and map features
  • Send push notifications (with your permission)
  • Personalise your feed and content recommendations
  • Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, and safety issues
  • Conduct content moderation and enforce our Terms of Service
  • Respond to your support requests and communications
  • Improve the Service through analytics and research
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations
  • Send service-related communications (account changes, policy updates)

We do not use your content to train AI/ML models without your explicit consent.

3. Sharing Your Information

3.1 With Other Users

Your public profile (username, display name, profile picture, bio, public posts) is visible to all users. Private account content is only visible to approved followers. Messages are visible only to participants in that conversation.

3.2 With Service Providers

We share information with trusted third-party service providers who assist us in operating the Service:

  • Cloud storage: Amazon Web Services (AWS S3) for media storage
  • Push notifications: Apple Push Notification Service (APNS) and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM)
  • Maps: mapping API providers for the interactive map feature
  • Analytics: anonymised usage analytics providers
  • Content moderation: automated moderation service providers

These providers are contractually obligated to handle your information only as necessary to provide their services and in accordance with applicable law.

3.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.

3.4 Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of our assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

3.5 We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes.

4. App Permissions & Device Data

Swipemapp requests the following device permissions. You can manage these at any time in your device settings.

Camera (optional)

To capture photos and videos for posts, stories, and profile pictures.

Microphone (optional)

To record voice messages in chats and audio for video posts.

Photo Library / Media Storage (optional)

To select existing photos and videos from your device when creating posts.

Location (Precise) (optional)

To show your location on the map, pin places, and surface nearby events. Requested only when you use map features.

Push Notifications (optional)

To alert you about new messages, likes, comments, follows, and event invites.

Denying any permission does not affect your ability to use other features of the app. We only access device sensors when you are actively using the relevant feature.

5. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as necessary to provide the Service:

  • Account information: retained until you delete your account
  • Posts and media: deleted when you delete the specific post or your account
  • Messages: retained while your account is active; deleted upon account deletion
  • Log and analytics data: retained for up to 24 months in anonymised form
  • Legal hold: we may retain certain data longer if required by law or to resolve disputes

When you delete your account, we initiate deletion of your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is legally required.

6. Your Rights & Choices

Account & Content Controls

  • Edit or delete your posts, profile information, and account at any time in the app
  • Make your account private to restrict who can see your content
  • Block or restrict other users
  • Disable push notifications in device settings or the app
  • Opt out of personalised recommendations (contact us)

Data Access & Portability

You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you by contacting us at privacy@swipemapp.com. We will respond within 30 days.

Data Deletion

You can delete your account in the app under Settings → Delete Account. Alternatively, email us at privacy@swipemapp.com to request deletion. We will process your request within 30 days.

7. GDPR — EU & EEA Users

Legal Bases for Processing

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we process your personal data on the following legal bases:

  • Contract performance: to provide the Service you signed up for
  • Legitimate interests: to improve the Service, detect fraud, and ensure security
  • Consent: for push notifications, precise location, and marketing communications (you may withdraw consent at any time)
  • Legal obligation: where processing is required by applicable law

Your GDPR Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access: receive a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectification: correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Erasure: request deletion of your personal data (“right to be forgotten”)
  • Restriction: request that we limit processing of your data
  • Portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Objection: object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Withdraw consent: withdraw consent for consent-based processing at any time
  • Lodge a complaint: file a complaint with your local data protection authority

8. CCPA — California Users

If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • Right to know: request disclosure of personal information we collect, use, and share
  • Right to delete: request deletion of personal information we hold about you
  • Right to opt out of sale: we do not sell personal information — no action required
  • Right to non-discrimination: we will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights

To exercise your CCPA rights, email privacy@swipemapp.com with the subject “CCPA Request.” We will respond within 45 days.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13 years of age (or 16 in the EU/EEA where applicable). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at privacy@swipemapp.com and we will promptly delete the information.

10. International Data Transfers

Swipemapp is operated from [Company Jurisdiction]. Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States, where our servers and third-party service providers are located.

For transfers from the EU/EEA to countries that do not provide an adequate level of data protection, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission, or other appropriate transfer mechanisms, to protect your information.

11. Security

We implement industry-standard technical and organisational security measures to protect your information, including:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS) for all data transmitted between the app and our servers
  • Encrypted storage for sensitive data
  • Access controls limiting employee access to personal data
  • Regular security reviews and vulnerability assessments

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

12. Third-Party Links & Services

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. We encourage you to read their privacy policies before providing any personal information.

Sign-in via Google or Apple is governed by their respective privacy policies. The interactive map feature may be powered by a third-party mapping provider with its own data practices.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by posting a notice in the app and updating the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
